Now you know that during an opioid overdose, time is of the essence. Being prepared to respond quickly can help save a life!

Let’s review:
Naloxone has been used to successfully reverse thousands of opioid overdoses across Canada. Take-home naloxone kits are available to anyone. Naloxone is safe for all ages. It only works if you have opioids in your system. You cannot use naloxone improperly and it does not create dependence. It is safe to keep a naloxone kit on hand.

Steps to respond to an opioid overdose
  1. Call 911 or your local emergency number right away!
  2. Administer naloxone if you have it.
  3. Stay with your friend until help arrives.

The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides you some legal protection. You will not get in trouble if you are high or have drugs around if you are calling to save someone’s life.
