Cannabis in Canada
Cannabis became legal in Canada on October 17, 2018, when the Cannabis Act and its regulations came into force. The purpose of the Act is to:
- Keep cannabis out of the hands of youth
- Impose serious criminal penalties on people who break the law, especially those who import or export cannabis illegally, or provide cannabis to youth
- Protect public health and safety by allowing adults access to legal cannabis
While cannabis is legal in Canada, not all cannabis is legal.
